Kaley-Tamu highway bus services flout norms PDF Print E-mail

Passengers using the Kaley-Tamu highway bus services are facing a dilemma regarding no limits to passengers, fewer bus services and no traffic rules on the way. As a result ticket holders cannot sit comfortably in the buses, as they are constantly heckled by passengers, who do not have seats.

The bus owners want to get more profit, using less diesel and having as many passengers on every trip. In fact, the owners of Kaley-Tamu bus services in western Burma, allow all passengers, who want to travel by their bus with or without tickets. So a number of passengers sit in between seats as well as perch themselves on the roof of the bus.

Melbourne, Australia - 7 February, 2009: The last of the three well-known Chin singers invited to perform at the Chin Famine Live Aid Concerts has arrived in Australia, and the Chin community here is greeting her with excitement. Mimi Lalzamliani, a celebrated Chin singer from Mizoram State of India, where thousands of Chin refugees and famine victims live, arrived at Melbourne International Airport yesterday.
 
A famous singer from Mizoram, who already participated in the previous Chin Famine Live Aid Concerts in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand to benefit Chin famine victims, was excited to see local Chin community members who welcomed her at the airport.

Obama on Burma PDF Print E-mail
Ahead of the US presidential election on Tuesday, most polls are showing Democrat candidate Barack Obama with an insurmountable lead. A Gallup poll on October 30- November 1 showed 52 percent of US voters favoring Senator Obama with 41 percent for his rival John McCain. Other polls show similar if not more flattering poll predictions. So, with the Illinois senator apparently on the threshold of a four-year American presidency, what does his policy on Burma likely to be?

The Center for Strategic and Internationals Studies (CSIS), a Washington-based think tank, said in its October analysis that presidential hopeful Obama would continue to support sanctions on the Burmese junta and would continue to call for democracy and the protection of human rights in the military-ruled country.
